The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, conducted a Consular Mobile Service in Zurich on 09 and 10 May 2026, with the assistance of the Sri Lankan Associations and the Sri Lankan Community in Zurich. The initiative was organized to facilitate consular services to the Sri Lankans in their respective areas, considering accessibility and the convenience of the community.
Inaugurating the Consular Mobile Service on 09 May 2026, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Sumith Dassanayake, stated that the Sri Lanka Mission in Geneva under the guidance of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herath is planning to organize similar Consular Mobile Services in major cities across Switzerland vis-à-vis Bern, Aargau, Solothurn etc. He further noted that the Zurich programme marks one such initiative in the series.
During the Mobile Service, the Mission provided various consular services including acceptance of passport applications, registration of birth, issuance of birth, marriage and death certificates retrieved from e-BMD, and acceptance of dual citizenship applications, attestation of civil status and affidavits, etc.
Parallel to the Mobile Consular Service, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Sumith Dassanayake had constructive meetings with the Sri Lankan Associations in Zurich including the Swiss Sri Lanka Association and Dhamma Union (Hindu Buddhist Association). The Permanent Representative also visited the Zurich Buddhist Vihara in Lenzburg and Sri Sivasubramaniar Temple in Adliswil.
