Statement by Sri Lanka, 02 February 2026

Agenda Item 10: Primary Healthcare

Thank you, Mr. Chair,

Sri Lanka takes positive note of the report by the Director-General on Primary healthcare. We appreciate the activities, initiatives and efforts carried out and made by the WHO in collaboration with other partners to advance universal health coverage, with primary healthcare - oriented reforms as the cornerstone.

Sri Lanka is grateful to the WHO for providing technical support to advance the quality of care and patient safety in the country.

Sri Lanka emphasizes policy dialogue and technical assistance are continuously required in the key areas of service delivery and quality, health-information systems, governance and social accountability, workforce capacities and equitable health-financing reforms. However, we are certain that political commitment for public healthcare is crucial for better implementation.

Mr. Chair,

Sri Lanka underlines and echoes that strengthening primary healthcare, especially through advancing digital health infrastructure and integrating essential primary health functions with the primary healthcare, are important for prevention, resilience and effective achievement.

Sri Lanka further highlights that data collection while preserving and ensuring the privacy of patients, will help to identify the areas that need to be focused and addressed and for better policy implementation.

Thank you
